Introducing Matoyana Media’s Warrior Women Series

By Nokwazi Mzobe

Why I Made the Warrior Women Videos

I created the Warrior Women series because every year I choose a word to live by. Last year was my year of “Fearless” and I made a video series where I interviewed 23 amazing women, mainly entrepreneurs, asking them to share their stories about how they’re fearless in their businesses and in their lives.

The journey of the Warrior Women is slightly different. I looked at 2019 and it did not start off on a good note and by March / April I realised I was not being the heroine of my story. I was playing victim and I knew it was time to step into my inner warrior.

My word for 2019 was initially “Focused” and I decided to change it to “Warrior”. From this change emerged the idea of interviewing warrior women, asking them to share their stories and advice to perhaps help other women in similar situations. Looking back, it was actually such a significant word to choose because it’s been a very tough year for us women – specifically in South Africa – but also around the world. When I see how women have stepped up, started sharing their stories, started being real warriors in their lives (and in the lives of others) I realised this truly was the time of the Warrior Women.

What Should People Expect from the Series?

In the Warrior Women series there’s diversity in terms of sexual orientation, representation on the African continent, age, race and career type. A result of having a more diverse group of women is that we have a really wide variety of stories and insights.  There’s a lot of wisdom shared in the series – so expect authenticity, vulnerability and some amazing women who have been brave warriors, stepping up to the challenge and sharing their stories in the best way that they could.

Thank you!
