A Startup Founder’s Guide to Entrepreneurship Books
As they say “knowledge is power.” So, where do successful entrepreneurs go to build their knowledge hub?
If you answered books, you’re correct. Turns out some of the most successful people are avid book worms. Warren Buffet is said to read he’s known to read roughly 500 pages every day. Other founders like Manish Chandram of Poshmark acknowledge reading as an “engine for personal growth.” He specifically believes that business growth is tied to the leader’s personal growth, in which reading plays a significant role. Elon Musk is also said to have taught himself to build rockets by reading.
Of course, in today’s digital age, you might be more inclined to read online articles, watch a YouTube video or listen to podcasts to gain your information. But make no mistake, there are some topics that need more detail than what you can gather from a five minute read or easy-to-digest video. If you want exposure to new ideas, modes of thinking, and a compounded aggregate of diverse knowledge, then reading is important, especially if you’re a startup founder.
With that in mind, the startup insurance company, Embroker, put together a guide on 21 books to help founders scale their startup. This guide is broken into three categories:
- Growth hacking books — Those that give you insights on how to scale a startup business. These coer topics like marketing, product development and sales.
- Books to read before pitching VCs — Books for founders and entrepreneurs who are getting ready to go after additional funding to grow their business.
- Entrepreneurship stories — Tomes that will give you insight into the stories, struggles, successes and failures of other entrepreneurs who’ve gone before you.
This is an infographic of books from the growth hacking section like “Smartcuts” by Shane Snow and “The Lean Startup” by Eric Ries. If you’re interested in seeing which other books made the list, check out their full guide on books to scale.
