Matoyana Media\u2019s next “In<\/span>\u00a0The<\/span>\u00a0Spotlight<\/span>” feature is with Ethnikids – a bookstore founded by five mommies who are passionate about inspiring children: Precious Mdlalose, Kgalalelo Nazo, Mpho Maje, Tina Akuoko and Khumo Tapfumaneyi. \"InEthnikids<\/i><\/span><\/span>\u00a0sell<\/span><\/span>s<\/span><\/span>\u00a0and promote<\/span><\/span>s<\/span><\/span>\u00a0diverse children’s books that feature characters of colour\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0all official South African languages – and\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0books are available to buy online.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Their focus is\u00a0on<\/span>\u00a0children\u2019s literature that is<\/span><\/span>\u00a0representati<\/span><\/span>ve and that<\/span><\/span>\u00a0allow<\/span><\/span>s<\/span><\/span>\u00a0children to see themselves\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0books they read. This is important because\u00a0<\/span><\/span>when<\/span><\/span>\u00a0children identify and relate with\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0material they are consuming,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>they\u00a0<\/span><\/span>can forge a connection and spark a love for reading.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

By\u00a0<\/span><\/span>build<\/span><\/span>ing\u00a0<\/span><\/span>a culture of reading and\u00a0understanding of one another\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0South Africa,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Ethnikids\u00a0<\/span><\/span>instills an\u00a0<\/span><\/span>appreciation for\u00a0<\/span><\/span>African\u00a0<\/span><\/span>stories and languages, and also support<\/span><\/span>s<\/span><\/span>\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0incredible talent that resides\u00a0<\/span><\/span>in<\/span>\u00a0our country<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\"InWhen we asked\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0mom-preneurs of Ethnikids how they stay sane and creative at\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0moment, they said,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are fortunate to work with children, who are endless sources of inspiration and enthusiasm. We want to serve our children, and show them that they matter. They are our future, and we want them to have things better than what we had. Working as a team of passionate, driven,\u00a0critical thinking women also helps with keeping\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0sanity\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0check! We are plugged into something bigger than ourselves.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
