They\u2019re<\/span>\u00a0passionate about development\u00a0<\/span>and because they work within\u00a0<\/span>rural communities\u00a0<\/span>they\u2019re sensitive<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to\u00a0<\/span>the<\/span>\u00a0differences and inequality gaps\u00a0<\/span>between urban and rural communities<\/span>.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

<\/a>Urglobal offers rural schools and communities a 4.0 digital lifeline\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0form of a Rural Technology Park Model, ensuring that rural schools and communities join\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0digital movement.\u00a0<\/span>The<\/span>\u00a0business\u00a0<\/span>recognizes that\u00a0<\/span>Information and Communications Technology<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>(<\/span>ICT<\/span>)<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>can<\/span>\u00a0be used to bridge\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0gap between rural and urban schools\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0South Africa by addressing ICT skills gaps of teachers and Learners.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"InThe<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Technology Model P<\/span>ark concept was envisioned to drive ICT skills training through a \u201cfixed\u201d and \u201cMobile\u201d Rural Technology Park.\u00a0The<\/span>\u00a0mobile park model was developed to increase access, reach and promote inclusion for rural schools and communities negating\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0distance and inaccessibility challenge. It was initiated\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a02017 providing basic computer skills to teachers, Learners, and communities driving a culture of ICT use\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0rural communities.<\/span><\/p>\n

Parallel to this, land for\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0fixed park was acquired\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a02017 from\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0Chief and Eastern Cape Department of Agriculture. Their vision is to have an ICT Centre (Hub) which will function as a community ICT skills center for showcasing technology gadgets and driving essential digital skills training and hosting coding workshops and Hackathons among other innovations. This hub is to be accessed by rural schools and communities.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\"InThrough\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0Technology Park model, Urglobal hopes to unearth\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0potential of rural based learners to become globally competitive citizens, through\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0provision of comprehensive friendly ICT innovations which can enable them to learn, imagine infinitely, make informed career choices, live healthy lifestyles and contribute to\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0common good. These ICT initiatives will usher\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0a new generation of creative, innovative thinkers that can improve livelihoods for rural communities\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0future.<\/p>\n

We asked Urglobal Founder,\u00a0<\/span>Luleka Mkuzo, how she keeps c<\/span>onnected<\/span>\u00a0during\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0COVID-19 pandemic and she said,\u201d<\/span>I am fortunate to be part of various networks such as YALI (SADC), Mandela Washington Fellowship and GIBS SEP just to name a few. To stay inspired we have discussion platforms where we update each other\u00a0on<\/span>\u00a0what we are doing\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0our communities both nationally and internationally. Such platforms contribute support and encouragement. I also ensure that I stay engaged with our stakeholders,\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0schools,\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0students and\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0Urglobal Board. These also provide a shared vision and shared aspirations to see our vision come to fruition, they keep me going.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
